Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) is the country’s most popular savannah reserve and has a variety of wildlife and diverse eco systems which are composed of sprawling savannah, sparkling lakes, lush wetlands, and shady humid forests. These varied habitats support a wealth of wildlife and are an ideal host for classic big game, primates and a variety of bird species.
The park has an abundance of magnificent vistas that include the jagged backdrop of Rwenzori Mountains; rolling hills with extinct volcano craters, hippo lined Kazinga Channel, rift valley grasslands at Kasenyi and Ishaha, the western shores of Lake Edward and Mitumbe Mountains in Congo can be seen from afar.
The major wildlife highlights in QENP are the tree climbing lions in Ishasha sector that can be seen resting on huge fig trees, buffalos, chimpanzee trekking in the steamy, tropical forest of Kyambura Gorge, Maramagambo forest and birding activities for birds such as the forest flycatcher, white napped pigeon, and Rwenzori turaco.
