History and Development

Lion Assurance Company Ltd belongs to a regional insurance group which has its presence in Botswana, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The Company’s main shareholder, Botswana Insurance Company, is the largest short term insurance company in Botswana. In Zimbabwe, the Company’s sister companies, Zimnat Lion Company Limited (short term insurance company), and Zimnat Life Company Limited (life insurance company) and GrandRe. (a reinsurance company) are significant players in the insurance business. The Company draws from the strong interaction of the business units in the various countries to ensure that the insurance solutions it offers are world class.

The ultimate shareholder for the insurance group, TA Holdings is a Zimbabwean based Investment Company with interests in hotel management/ownership, financial services, fertilizer production and Insurance. TA Holdings is quoted on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.

Lion Assurance has a Capitalisation base of over 9.8 billion Uganda shillings making it one of the strongest insurance players in the Ugandan market. The Imperial Royale Hotel which opened its door for business in the later part of 2007 has a unique design and style never seen before. The hotel is centrally located in Kampala adjoining Sheraton Hotel and Sheraton Hotel, thus providing easy and traffic free access to government offices, banks, diplomatic missions, airline offices and shopping malls.
